Commands



New (File Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to create a new project in LeoCAD.

You can open an existing project with the Open command.

Open (File Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to open an existing project.

You can create new projects with the New command.

Shortcuts

Toolbar:
Keyboard:CTRL+O


Merge (File Menu)

Use this command to merge objects from another project into the current project.

You can open an existing project with the Open command.



Save (File Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to save your project to its current name and directory. When you save a project for the first time, LeoCAD displays the Save As dialog box so you can name your project. If you want to change the name and directory of an existing project before you save it, choose the Save As command.

When you save a project, you save the system settings also. When you open the file again, it will be opened with the same viewport configuration, view and zoom levels, snap and grid settings, etc.

Save As (File Menu)

Use this command to save and name your project. LeoCAD displays the Save As dialog box so you can name your project.

To quickly save a project with its existing name and directory, choose the Save command.


Save Picture (File Menu)

Use this command to save pictures and animations of the current project. LeoCAD will display the Save As dialog box so you can choose the name your project and the settings from the Image options dialog.


Send (File Menu)

Use this command to send the current project to another person by email. LeoCAD will start your system's default email editor and create a blank message with a copy of the current project attached.


Export 3D Studio (File Menu)

Exports the current project to a file that can be read by 3D Studio 4.0 and 3DS Max. LeoCAD will display the Save As dialog box so you can choose the file name.

Note: To be able to correctly view the project in 3DS, you will have to disable backface culling and check the box called "Force 2-sided" in the 3D Studio rendering preferences dialog.


Export HTML (File Menu)

This command creates a web page with the assembly instructions for the current project. LeoCAD will display the HTML options dialog, where you will be able to choose several options.


Export POV-Ray (File Menu)

This command allows you to exports the current project to a file that can be read by POV-Ray, a free ray tracing program. LeoCAD displays the POV-Ray options dialog to let you choose the file name and other options.

Ray Tracing, is a method that allows you to create stunning photo-realistic images on a computer. The main drawback of ray tracing is that it's not fast, the software actually mathematically models the light rays as they bounce around the virtual world, reflecting, refracting and generally having a good time until they end up in the lense of your imaginary camera.


Export Wavefront (File Menu)

This command exports the current project to a file in the Wavefront .obj format, used by several popular rendering programs. You will be able to choose the file name from the Save As dialog box.


Properties (File Menu)

This command displays the Properties Dialog, where you can see some information about the curent project, including the author name, description and pieces used.


Pieces Library Manager (File Menu)

This command will take you to the Pieces Library Manager, that allows you to import new pieces and customize the groups on the Pieces Toolbar.


Terrain Editor (File Menu)

This command opens the Terrain Editor, that allows you to create a background scenery to place your creations.


Print (File Menu, Standard Toolbar, Print Preview Toolbar)

Use this command to print a project. This command presents a Print dialog box, where you may specify the range of pages to be printed, the number of copies, the destination printer, and other printer setup options.

You can also set some other print options from the Print tab on the Preferences dialog box.

Print Piece List (File Menu)

Use this command to print a list of all pieces available in LeoCAD. This command presents a Print dialog box, where you may specify the range of pages to be printed, the number of copies, the destination printer, and other printer setup options.

You can also set some other print options from the Print tab on the Preferences dialog box.


Print Preview (File Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to display the active document as it would appear when printed. When you choose this command, the main window will be replaced with a print preview window in which one or two pages will be displayed in their printed format. The print preview toolbar offers you options to view either one or two pages at a time; move back and forth through the document; zoom in and out of pages; and initiate a print job.

Print Setup (File Menu)

Use this command to select a printer and a printer connection. This command presents a Print Setup dialog box, where you specify the printer and its connection.


Recent Files (File Menu)

Use the numbers and filenames listed at the bottom of the File Menu to open the last four projects you closed. Choose the number that corresponds with the document you want to open.


Exit (File Menu)

Use this command to end your LeoCAD session. You can also use the Close command on the application Control menu. LeoCAD prompts you to save the current project if it has unsaved changes.

Undo (Edit Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to reverse the last editing action, if possible. The name of the command changes, depending on what the last action was. The Undo command is disabled if you cannot reverse your last action.

Redo (Edit Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to redo the last undone action. The name of the command changes, depending on what the last action undone was.

Shortcuts

Toolbar:
Keyboard:CTRL+Y


Cut (Edit Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to remove the currently selected objects from the project and put them on the current clipboard. This command is unavailable if there are no objects currently selected.

Cutting objects to the clipboard replaces the contents previously stored there.

You can have multiple clipboards available at the same time.

Copy (Edit Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to copy the currently selected objects from the project onto the current clipboard. This command is unavailable if there are no objects currently selected.

Copying objects to the clipboard replaces the contents previously stored there.

You can have multiple clipboards available at the same time.

Paste (Edit Menu, Standard Toolbar)

Use this command to add a copy of the clipboard contents to the current project. This command is unavailable if the current clipboard is empty.

You can have multiple clipboards available at the same time.

Select All (Edit Menu)

Use this command to select all visible pieces.


Select None (Edit Menu)

Use this command to deselect all objects.


Select Invert (Edit Menu)

This command inverts the current selection set.


Select By Name (Edit Menu)

This command displays the Select Object dialog box, that allows you to select objects by their names.
