15 Let's add our first piece to the model, open the "Plates" category from the pieces list on the right, then scroll down and select "Plate 1 x 4". We want our car to be blue so click on the blue rectangle at the bottom. Notice that the picture on the top right corner has changed to reflect the new color.
15Start the model by adding a blue 1x4 plate.  First, expand the "Plates" category in the pieces list (alongside the right edge of the screen by default) by clicking on the [+] icon next to "Plates". Then scroll down and select "Plate 1 x 4". Next click on the blue rectangle in the color palette near the bottom right of the screen to set the current color to blue. Notice that the image in the top right corner changes as you select pieces or change colors, to reflect your current choice.

17 Now let's add the brick to the drawing area, click the "brick" icon on the top left of the screen and the mouse cursor will change to a small brick [[Image(brick_icon.png, nolink)]]. Move it to the drawing area, click with the left mouse button and a new piece will be added to the model. Alternatively, you can simply press the Insert key to add a new brick.
17Now add the brick to the drawing area: Click the Insert icon.  It's on the drawing toolbar and is shaped like a brick.  By default, the drawing toolbar is docked near the upper left of the LeoCAD application window. The mouse cursor will change to the image of a small brick [[Image(brick_icon.png, nolink)]]. Move the mouse over the drawing/view area, and click the left mouse button to add the new piece to the model. Alternatively, you can press the Insert key to add a new piece.
